Cooking our first meal!

Thursday as I was leaving work, Matt called and said they were almost done with the floors in the kitchen and dining room... AND, they were getting ready to put my new stove in (THANK YOU STUART AND DEBBIE!) So I went to the store and got stuff to make dinner! The first cooked meal (unless you count hot pockets) in our new house! I was pumped! I got all my ingredients for chicken and shrimp stir fry and headed home. They were just getting ready to put the stove in when I arrived! What an exciting day!
The stove was finally in and I got out all of my ingredients to cook. About that time, the power went off! So, about 3 hours later I finally got to make dinner... While we waited, we got to meet some more of our neighbors... but that is another story!! Cooking on my new stove!

My Amazing In-laws!!!!!

I have the most amazing in-laws in the world! Last Friday, they both took the day off of work, drove to our new house, and spent the day working here! They were such a big help!

They trimmed our bushes! And they look so much better than before!!!

There used to be some really big plants here that looked like weeds...

Now they are in the back yard!

Debbie mowed our lawn with or new lawn mower
that they bought and went and picked up for us!

Our new kitchen light is attached to the ceiling!

Stuart took down the old ceiling fan in the dining room
and installed the cool chandelier we found on clearance!

And Matt helped Stuart install our new thermostat!
It was awfully comical to watch the two of them!

Not only did they get a lot of work done, they were on hand for the stone company to come out and measure for our new counter tops, and stuck around for the new dishwasher and stove to be delivered! Thank you guys!! You Rock!!!!!!!!!!

House update...

Hello to all of you who have been waiting for me to update you! We have been so busy I haven't had much time to update the blog!  Thought I'd put up some new pictures of the house, but I realized that most of the pictures are still in the camera at home.  So here is what I have with me! I'll update again soon!
Things are going well... we are slowly getting stuff accomplished!  We still have quite a bit to do, but we are getting there!

The kitchen after we painted... getting ready to put the floors in!

Uncle Kyle working hard! He has been so amazing to help us!  We would have never made it without him!

Matt's mom and dad bought us Jack Stack our first night in the house...
We don't have a floor in our dining room yet
so we set up the table in the garage!

The day we moved in I went to vacuum our bedroom before we moved stuff into it and the handle broke off! This is our new vacuum that I LOVE!!!!!!!  It is amazing!  Thanks Lisa for getting us such a good deal!

Wake up call: Deer Meat!

So today started out like any other day... I got up, got ready, and headed to work. I'm driving down the highway, singing along to my new favorite song.... when I notice half a deer on the side of the road. I didn't really think much about it other than to think, oh, poor deer and maybe oh, poor people that hit it and I continued to sing along to my music.  Well, I think I mentioned that only about half of the deer was on the side of the road, and before I knew it, there was a nice BIG flank steak flying at me that was kindly kicked up by the car ahead of me.  It made a nice splat sound as it hit (and stuck!) to my windshield!!!!!!  I so should have grabbed the camera that was sitting beside me, but instead I quickly tried to figure out what to do!  The squirts have been waiting for me each morning in the driveway and I knew I couldn't pull up with road kill on my car or they would flip out! So I did what any other person would do and turned on my windshield wipers!
Well, wouldn't you know it, they totally went over the top of the "steak" and started smearing "stuff" all over my windshield. I was thoroughly discussed and totally awake by this point so I start spraying washer fluid and crank those wipers up full blast!  Pretty soon, there I heard it peel itself off the window and watched it fling back to the cement truck behind me!  Sorry concrete man!
So my question to you is this.... How do you like to be woken up in the morning... I think I prefer a kiss and breakfast in bed!

Our Very Own Babette!

I don't know if you are a fan of Gilmore Girls, but Matt and I have almost watched every episode ever made... we are almost done with season 7!  Anyway, on Tuesday Evening, we met our first neighbor at our new house.  Matt and I immediately decided she is our very own Babette.  If you haven't seen the show, Babette is the next door neighbor to the main characters and is known for speaking her mind even if it is a bit blunt! Babette is also an animal lover!
So Barb, our new neighbor lives across the street in the house with the purple shutters.  Matt was out mowing and I was taking him a drink as she was getting home from work.  She hurried across the street and quickly asked if we had bought the house. We told her we had and she was so very excited! She just kept saying, "OH! Thank God! I'm so glad it is you that moved in and she is never coming back!"
She went on and on telling us she was a grandma and that she loved kids. She asked if we had any, we said we didn't... yet. She told us we needed to get busy and have one so she had a baby to come over and hold!
Barb made sure we knew that she was parking in the driveway and not the garage because she had 2 dogs she let live in the garage when it was too hot to be outside, one is blind and runs into things.  She also has 3 cats... 2 of which have lung disease.  She just made me smile!
It was so nice to meet a neighbor and know they are excited that we are here! I can't wait to move in!

Becoming homeowners...

Buying a house has been quite an adventure! Somehow I have a feeling the fun has only just begun!
Our adventure started out kind of rough... the signing of the papers last Thursday didn't go quite as planned... The seller tried to pull some stuff and so it was a little touch and go for awhile. We did finally sign the papers and got keys the following day. When I showed up to get the keys, the previous owner had completely shut off the power! We were going to just have it signed over to our account, but it was completely shut off! So I quickly had to get it turned back on because we had people coming to help us out that night and the next day! We got the power back on with no problems, and Brent came over that night to change our locks for us! THANKS BRENT!
